"I would actually not qualify her as a villain any longer," said Tulloch. Because of Hadrian's Wall's conditioning, Eve knows how to control her power and use it for good in a way Juliette never did. Kouf and Greenwalt drew inspiration from Luc Besson's Nikita in their conception of Eve, and told Tulloch to study that movie as she prepared for the role. The only way she can justify remaining alive when she is so capable of so much destruction is by working with Hadrian's Wall and just give her something to do." "She feels like that was a past life, somebody else's life, that that person is dead. "It's still Juliette's DNA and flesh and blood, but it's not her anymore," Tulloch said. Her character had gone on to become Grimm's biggest antagonist - "the most evil person, really, that we'd had so far" - so there had to be a huge reboot on what Juliette was to find a way to reinvigorate the story. "They basically made that phone call to assuage my fears that I was not off the show and the intention was always to try to convince the fans that I was off the show and then bring me back in this huge fall finale kind of a thing."įor her, the turn for Juliette - now "Eve" - made sense. "There was 10 seconds of being nervous about whether or not I was still going to be on it," Tulloch explained. Tulloch recalled that they told her their idea was basically that because Juliette was so out of control with her Hexenbiest power, Hadrian's Wall - with the help of Trubel (Jacqueline Toboni) - would kidnap her by using tranquilizer darts and break and beat her into submission to "basically be a fighting machine for Hadrian's Wall to suppress Black Claw." The intent was always to make fans think that Juliette was gone for good, but showrunners Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt knew from the get-go how and why they would be bringing Tulloch back. The return of Tulloch to Grimm was a tightly-kept secret on the production. Though Juliette was seemingly killed in the Season 4 finale, she popped up again in the Season 5 midseason finale with a new platinum bob wig and an impressive control of her powers. The actress, who portrayed the veterinarian who went from Nick's (David Giuntoli) love interest to the show's Hexenbiest Big Bad, hopped on the phone to discuss her return to the NBC drama.
